FDI inflows to the COMESA region contracted marginally by 0.5% between 2017 and 2018. In value terms, this was a movement from US$ 20.1 billion in 2017 to US$ 19.9 billion in 2018, giving COMESA a share of about 43% of the total FDI inflows into Africa.


Economies in COMESA continue to improve their business climates, with Mauritius maintaining its place in the top twenty best countries to do business in the world. Mauritius climbed up seven places to rank thirteenth (13) place from twentieth (20) in 2019. Other notable reformers in 2019 were Uganda, Kenya and Egypt.
